For the purposes of this assignment I used my younger brother as a model.

For this exercise I demonstrated the smooth gradient of light and shadow when my subject looked 45 degrees to his right with the window giving natural light on his right also, because of this the light is smooth in its transition to the dark side of his head.

{Note: I left facial expressions to my models imagination) Here you can see the sharp contrasts between the light and dark of the models face and facial features such as the nose and under the eyelids, caused by turning his his to be 90 degrees to the window and natural light.

With a 90 degrees to the camera and facing towards the natural light, his face gains all the light to be fully visible however the back of his head and outward features such as behind his jawline receive a gradual shade or darkness.
