Beta Male's Beta

Image
We chilling now Link- https://tumblrgallery.xyz/post/4225637.html   My Beta is complete, it has a start, and an ending, it features no bugs as I or my testers are aware of right now, and it plays as intended, it's actually quite fun to play if I do say so myself, every now and then I find myself just moving around for the fun of it. The final game features: A player who must race to the end of an obstacle course were they are timed for best times. They must avoid obstacles and falling off the stages. The player is a small pink rubber, they also have the abilities to jump, wall run, wall jump and of course move around. they can also stick to a wall forever if they hold the right direction, although that's less useful than it sounds, after all the name of the game is speed. The player can run jump and climb many obstacles in the level, at minimum they are presented with 3 different paths, which converge for the ending, however with a little creativity there's technically more...

Project Week 10

Image
Okay so this is like the one week we don't have to write a project blog but this is also the week I came back from holidays and basically did a weeks worth of work until 5 in the morning so uh, just recap on what is now in my game: The jump mechanic is now fixed The movement has been completely reworked to be more fun and easier to control The camera has changed slightly to now follow the player but not follow the player up behind them in inclines The Test Level has been expanded, been given longer walls to run on as well as a few other changes There is now a functional death barrier that respawns the player at a respawn point There is now a skybox The player can now wall run and to an extent wall jump The Player no longer clips through solid objects and the few times the player does, it does not result in instant death The player no longer fly's through the sky like a paper airplane if the forward key is held The player actually tumbles throughout the level now instead of jus...

First Playable (Kinda)

Image
This week we were tasked with taking our prototype and taking it to the first playable stage, while I still had not resolved my issue from last week (namely my car simply refuses to jump) I decided to go ahead and flesh out the Test Level I had made, deleting the planes I was using as roads and replacing them with solid cube platforms, floating in space above a makeshift death plane. I edited some values to make my car more comfortable to control, added some scenarios that I could use to test the car and implemented a ramp from last week too... Then it came to the car. The test is playable if not just barely, the big problem simply being, the car jumps once... and then never again. Still. I have talked to my lecturer, made countless search's on the internet, straight up replaced the code in some scenario's but to no avail, the car refuses to work. Hopefully this problem is resolved before next week as I cannot really progress in the creation of my platformer without the abilit...

Prototype

Image
Prototype I started my prototype just this week and I can already tell this is going to be a long and difficult road... All I was trying to make was a test level, like the ones you see in ps2 games as a secret unlockable stage during the credits or as an Easter Egg/Cheat Code, just so I could accurately make basic assets for the game and test out some code. I used the code we made for the first unity tutorial as a base to see if I could nail down the car controls now, as everyone knows  the most important thing to a platformer game is the controls and the way the player feels while controlling, however I just couldn't nail down the camera to where I wanted it to be, after tis weeks test run I have made all the basic assets and a test level with very rough controls for the car. Discussion on what’s working and what your finding difficult What's currently working is simply the game is able to run on my laptop which isn't  the greatest start in the world, what isn't workin...

Game Design Document

Image
Introduction In this Game Design Document (GDD) ( link here ) you will find all reasoning, design choices, concept art, MDA and reasoning behind MDA in a short condensed and understandable way both as a part of the game making process and also as a part of the Multimedia 1 course. Car jumping Gif Link- https://tenor.com/search/funny-car-gifs This GDD will be updated and given even more information as the game is designed and progress is made.

Game Vision Statement

Image
My Game Concept Idea: Game 4 (Name not decided yet) "Game 4" is a 3D third-person, stunt-car platformer for PC that is based on  the very first Unity tutorial we finished  and the success of other stunt car games such as Riff Racer, Hot Wheels Unleashed and the award winning Rocket |League. Introduction Game 4 will be a fun addicting platformer in which the game tasks the player with the goal of racing to the goal as fast as possible in a multitude of levels requiring precise jumps, fast driving and quick instinct-based decisions. Armed with abilities such as jumping, wall running, boosting and drifting, players will jump from platform to platform, planet to planet in hopes to memorise level structure and make it to the goal, signified by a finishing line, in as quick as time as possible. The game has no plot, instead playing more like an arcade-based experience, substituting time to complete values for points on the high score board, and on provoking an accomplished fe...

Game Idea Research

Image
It's funny, I am currently writing this post and I am trying to figure out as I go, which game idea I will go with as I actually cannot pick one. Does that mean these ideas are bad or bland? No! It means I want to do them all and I know I only have the choice of making one! A quick catch up Game 1- A 2D obstacle course clear game reminiscent of Geometry Dash where you must build enough momentum to catapult yourself right into the next level! Game 2- A comedically tuned horror game where you are stalked by a chicken, let the poultry frights begin! Game 3- A 2D platformer in which you play as a candle who can jump, run and light his way through levels of traditional platforming goodness with a twist. and Game 4- A 3D high-speed game in which you must race to the finish of a level, oh except you are a car, and the level is a series of floating platforms suspended in space. By picking through strengths and weaknesses, positives and negatives, and overall evaluation (I picked one at ra...

Game Brainstorm

Image
For this project I have been thinking of and taking note of games I came up with that are all original, not realising it would be a task to show these games off so soon, here are the games I have come up with. Project 1: For my very first idea I actually came up with it earlier this week while making a blog post about ideation and listening to music. It is a 2D Platformer in which the character is a slime/sludge Alien. The mechanics are you can jump, move left and right, upon jumping onto a flat surface you can stick to said surface and continue to move left or right or jump to a new surface, gravity is present, the main camera follows the player as is with platformers such as Sonic and Mario. The main draw point of the game is there is a momentum meter at the top, you are tasked with continuedly moving to reaching maximum velocity throughout the level. The level design compliments this, most enemies are easily dodged, obstacles are jumped over, platforms in the air can be used as runn...
