In this weeks reading we learned of the value that storytelling has in games and why it is something every game developer, related to storytelling or not should know about and know the difference of stories in gaming in relation to fellow mediums such as film and book. Storytelling in gaming is a powerful tool, in todays day and age people are more mesmerised by the power of storytelling than of the amount of mega pixels used to define their favourite characters hair. Storytelling in gaming is a complex thing to define, in some games there simply is no plot, in some games there is a very linear plot, some games are chock full of cutscenes but are still games, some games make it a point that your choices matter, some games lie about this. Overall gaming is a medium that must be developed and to many developers, why develop something only a portion of the people you entice to buy your game are going to see? This is the limitation of gaming but limitation is a strong word, there truly are no limits to a games story, it can be about anything and do anything, such as in Undertale where indeed what you do and how you choose to play the game can net you one of 3 completely different experiences and endings. Overall I am glad I have learned of the importance of gaming stories and will be using this knowledge next I look at or make a game with a deep and meaningful plot.

Great blog post Jack! You make a great point about how it's important for developers to understand and be able to differentiate between good storytelling in games and good storytelling in books and film. I like how you say that there is no limitation when it comes to games stories, I felt like Undertale was a great pick for an example as I think the most unique stories tend to pop up in Indie games such as that.
