CMS Publishing Task 3 CDM Year 3

Image
Content Management Systems CDM Year 3 Publishing Task 3 B00138525 – Jack Roche   The general process I used to migrate was All-In-One WP Migration Plugin, which I found by searching for it on my WordPress Dashboard in the new plugin’s tab. This plug-in was suggested to us by our lecturer and served to export and import our sites to a certain size. To avail of this size concern, I exported my must-use plug-ins, database and so on, but chose to not carry over my other plug-ins, opting to install them from the hosting WordPress dashboard instead. The CA2 site can be found here . I used Infinity Free to host the site. I chose to use TwentyTwenty as my theme as it was clean and simple and allowed me to make multiple changes or use code snippets without restraint from paywalls. The site also uses plug-ins listed here to do the following- • WooCommerce- Used for CTA buttons and general ecommerce utilities such as a basket • Hubspot- Implementation of a Live Chat fea...

Content Management Systems- Publishing Task 2

Publishing Task 2 Jack Roche  Introduction Here I will showcase what I wish my CMS website to be, what two UX features I will be using, why I am using this features and how these features are going to be implemented by me. What we'll build? I plan to create an e-commerce site that will sell paintings. Within this e-commerce site I plan to incorporate a home page and a products page with rows of paintings. These paintings will be clickable for more info. The two UX features I plan to use are primary call to action buttons (CTA's) and filter systems like below:   Non-academic source on UX considerations:  https://www.uxbooth.com/articles/ux-considerations-for-building-an-amazing-cms/   Academic Source on CTA buttons:  https://dl.acm.org/doi/abs/10.1145/3278252.3278276     Why build it? The motives behind the website are I would like to learn how to make an e-commerce site for future use and experience, and the paintings are a personal choice. The UX elem...

User Experience (UX) Explained for Best Practice Website Creation

Image
B00138525 Jack Roche Content Management Systems  CA 1- Publishing Task 1 User Experience (UX) Explained for Best Practice Website Creation Here is everything you need to know about UI/UX design this week, with the end of the Adobe Max virtual conference I will discuss User Experience and the best practice for website creation, links to the videos I found useful in my research down below.   Adobe Session 1   Grace Ling provides a striking insight into what her life was like growing up and studying neuroscience before coming to work at Electronic Arts where she works as a UX designer.  Neuroscience has little/nothing to do with UX, but she found herself in that career all the same with no educational background other than her self-taught skills and interests on the subject- Showing just how UX can be experienced and learned in the workplace, and you never stop learning more and more about it as she continues to express how much she is still learning ev...

Growth Mindset 11

Source: https://fs.blog/carol-dweck-mindset/  This week I learned more about Carol Dweck the doctor who coined the phrase Growth Mindset. I learned this week exactly what constitutes as a fixed mindset. People with a fixed mindset avoid challenges, give up at obstacles, see effort as fruitless, ignore useful negative feedback and feel threatened by the success of others. However, people with growth mindset seam to take a lot of these elements in stride and try to become better from each one, for example they are ready to embrace challenge, persist in the face of setbacks and so on. I feel this is a very important mindset to have in college and general life, there's no one who can be perfect all the time or in this case "smart", everyone has their own unique challenges and strengths but these challenges are belittled and these strengths can always be enhanced with a growth mindset and some hard work.

Growth Mindset 12

Source: https://www.mindsetworks.com/science/  This week I learned about Dr Dweck who coined the term "Growth Mindset" as well as the experiments made in fiske elementary school that showed a growth mindset can result in a much higher effort from a student body at large, which in turn can result in better grades. A growth mindset can also be something that can be caused in a brain, deviating from a fixed mindset, which is when someone instead of being given praise for their hard work and effort is instead given praise as being smart. A result of this is when students underperform or fail tests, those with fixed mindsets are defeated by this news and can become upset or give up on the task at hand, meanwhile those with a growth mindset can be found to preform admirable better on a second test, being able to learn and grow more from their failure than their fixed counterpart.  I find these traits admirable, the ability to be able to bounce back from any certain failure and ...

Reading 12

Reflection on creating a chapter for this years book: I enjoyed researching, learning, and generally finding out more about VR, AR and XR. I also enjoyed challenging myself on my own knowledge of the technology and versions of it, for example I had heard of The Sword of Damocles but I never actually seen a picture of it before until now. I enjoyed learning about the history of an aspect of gaming you don't usually see YouTube video's or retrospective documentaries on often,  cause for a lot of people VR, AR and XR are entirely new concepts but in reality they have been present in our day to day lives for a significant amount of time already!

My chapter in the book is finished, I have followed the advice my lecturer gave me and added the sources to my paragraphs into the writings themselves (for whatever reason I decided not to do that originally, making more work for myself haha) With that and some graphics my chapter is finished.

This week I added my bio and then continued to add some graphics, I added one graphic I made myself of a modern VR headset and then another graphic of the Sword of Damocles: Author Bio- My name's Jack, I like video games. I really like video games, especially the ones from the past- The retro classics. I am also a 2nd year student of Creative Digital Media, Technology University of Dublin. These facts are in an order of importance.

Introduction: At the dawn of time, there was no XR (Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR) and Mixed Reality(MR)). Life was sad. Then, life began getting a lot more interesting, Ivan Sutherland made a sword that hangs from the ceiling, Thomas P Caudell coined the name "Augmented Reality" (sounds pretty cool) and then Facebook continued to buy the current main VR competitor which is why we have talks of the metaverse today. Here, is the history of XR and how it all came to be. Conclusion: The technology of VR, AR and MR are all very intertwined, we would not have AR without VR and we would not have VR without technologies like Sensorama, "The Sword of Damocles", and your average mobile phone. It's fascinating to follow the path of MR and see how the state of art technology of 1988 compares to the general market technology used in modern day MR in 2022, how both these histories bounce of one another and continue to progress even today, constantly waiting fo...

This week we opened a new file and began annew on a new project, for this I decided instead of using my 2021 Unity, I went into the archive and downloaded the Unity specifically for this project- 2018.13.1f. After importing all the files and getting settings set up, I found I never actually made a Unity ID, lol. So I made a new one in order to import car, battery and clamp assets from the store. From there it was normal everyday work.

Game Jam 2022

Image
Introduction “A game jam is an event where participants try to make a video game from scratch. Depending on the format, participants might work independently, or in teams. The event duration usually ranges from 24 to 72 hours. Participants are generally programmers, game designers, artists, writers, and others in game development-related fields. Some game jams are contests, others are not.”- Defined by Wikipedia.   This Game Jam for TUDublin Game Jam 2022 was made with the main theme being that of all games must cover a specific topic or general language learning, allowing the player to learn, test or play a game with any language (apart from English) and learn from it. The format for this Game Jam had us in teams of 4 or 5, most being teams of 4. This was my first ever Game Jam and I found it quite enjoyable.   Team   There were 4 people in my team including me: Me, Eimear, Amy and Racheal. Eimear is another CDM student and friend of mine, Amy ...

As detailed in this weeks tutorial here is my research into the convergence of AR, VR and MR: Links- https://readwrite.com/extended-reality-and-the-convergence-of-ar-and-vr/ cdmonline.ie/multidev2-2022/ https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0148296318305319 https://www.einfochips.com/blog/immersive-technologies-are-making-us-superheroes/ https://convergetechmedia.com/transform-your-workplace-using-ar-mr-and-vr/ https://www.mdpi.com/topics/VR_AR_MR https://www.wavestone.com/en/insight/augmented-virtual-mixed-reality-technologies-maturity/ Research- When it comes to future technologies that interest me, the convergence of AR, VR and MR has a lot to research. The introduction of the oculus quest 2, Vive and steam VR headsets of recent design have been rolling out with inside tracking, allowing the user to use a feature known as pass through mode where even with the headset strapped in front of them keeping them in a VR environment, the ability to use camera to allow room...

The authors (T. P. Kersten a*, F. Tschirschwitz a, S.
